Augsburg (dpa / lby) - Four cases of the British mutation of the coronavirus have been detected in Augsburg.

In three cases there is a connection to stays abroad in Moldova and India, as the city announced on Tuesday.

"The fourth case is related to one of the aforementioned cases."

The probably highly contagious mutations could give the development of the pandemic a new direction, said Mayor Eva Weber (CSU).

"We have made all the necessary organizational preparations to combat a possible third wave."

The dreaded mutations had previously been detected in other administrative districts of Bavaria, both the British and the South African variants.
