Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Almost a third of all primary school students in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are currently going to school, although parents are asked to look after their children at home and in three districts only emergency care is offered.

The share was highest on Monday in the city of Rostock.

There, 43.7 percent of all first to fourth graders were sent to school by their parents, according to data from the Ministry of Education.

In the Rostock district it was 38.9 percent.

In the region, the corona infection numbers are the lowest nationwide.

The seven-day incidence value in the city and district of Rostock is currently below the warning value of 50. Nonetheless, as in the rest of the state, the requirement for schools to be present has been lifted.

In the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Greifswald and Ludwigslust-Parchim, children up to grade six are only allowed to go to school due to the high number of infections if their parents work in a systemically relevant profession.

The proportion of children in face-to-face classes is also the lowest there: According to the information provided on Monday, it was 22 percent in the Lake District, 23.4 percent in Western Pomerania-Greifswald and 25.5 percent in Ludwigslust-Parchim.

Nationwide, 31 percent of elementary school students and 13.9 percent of fifth and sixth graders were in schools on Monday.

From grade seven onwards, everyone has to study at home.

Face-to-face lessons are only offered for the final grades.

According to the ministry, 67.7 percent noticed this on Monday.

The numbers are thus at the level of the previous weeks.
