In recent years, electric scooters have swept across Europe's capitals and made it possible for many to move from one place to another without using public transport, in addition to an electric vehicle that does not emit greenhouse gases.

Blocking roads

But the business model also poses problems.

When users rent the vehicle for a short period of time and then have to be responsible for parking on their own, there is a risk that the scooters will block the road for cyclists and pedestrians.

“We want the electric scooters to make it easier to get around the streets of Stockholm.

Instead, it is often just the opposite ", states Stockholm City Councilor Daniel Helldén (MP) in a press release.

Punished with a fine

The city's political leadership has decided that incorrectly parked electric scooters will be punished with a parking fine of SEK 250.

But the fines are given to the companies that rent them out, and thus not to the latest user.

“This sends a clear signal from the City of Stockholm that we can not accept anything in our public environment.

No one should have to be afraid of tripping over an electric scooter on the way to the grocery store, ”says Helldén.
