Gerolstein (dpa / lrs) - The police are continuing to investigate the owner of a house that was badly damaged by an excavator as a result of a dispute.

The man is said to have partially demolished the building in Gerolstein (Vulkaneifel district) - possibly while the tenant was still inside.

It was said that there had been an argument between the two for a long time.

According to the current state of knowledge, there is “in any case the suspicion of coercion, the building risk and damage to the tenant's inventory,” said a police spokesman on Monday.

"Information on whether further criminal offenses may come into consideration can only be given once the facts have been adequately clarified."

The house owner had therefore made a brief statement on Friday.

A "formal questioning" has not yet been carried out, it said.

According to the police, he sat behind the wheel of an excavator on Friday morning and partially demolished the house.

Whether the tenant was in the house at this time has not yet been conclusively clarified, said a spokesman.

The resident was reportedly unharmed.

He was staying with friends for the time being, it said on Monday.

According to the police, the building is no longer habitable and is in danger of collapsing.
