Feldberg (dpa / lsw) - A snowshoe hiker died after falling into a snow hole on the Feldberg.
The 27-year-old woman succumbed to the consequences of the accident on Monday night, the police said.
According to the Hochschwarzwald mountain rescue service, the woman fell into a three-meter-deep hole under the blanket of snow on Sunday afternoon.
Below the snow surface, a stream flows into the Feldsee.
As the police reported, the woman was unable to free herself.
Snow kept slipping down.
According to the mountain rescue service, rescue workers recovered the critically injured woman and her uninjured 28-year-old companion, who was in shock.
Because of the weather and the darkness, no rescue helicopter could fly.
After the woman had fallen, several avalanches had gone off, which made the operation difficult.
