Hannover (dpa) - Hannover 96 won the Lower Saxony duel with Osnabrück and exacerbated the crisis at VfL.

The team of coach Kenan Kocak defeated the purple-whites on Monday evening deserved 1-0 (0-0).

For Osnabrück it was the fifth defeat in a row.

The lead over the relegation place in the 2nd Bundesliga is only four points.

Hannover are seven points behind the promotion ranks after the victory.

Timo Hübers scored the decisive goal for the 96 with a head in the 55th minute.

96 made a lot of pressure at the beginning and attacked the Osnabrückers well into their half.

After just two minutes, Marvin Ducksch had a great chance to take the lead.

Osnabrück's goalkeeper Philipp Kühn falsified the ball decisively - and the game device rolled against the outside post.

Shortly afterwards, Niklas Hult shot precisely, but not hard enough.

After the lively initial phase, the game flattened a little.

From Osnabrück almost nothing came on the offensive, Hanover found it difficult to find gaps.

A controversial penalty area scene after a corner caused a stir: Etienne Amenyido took the ball with him, but referee Manuel Gräfe did not decide on a penalty.

Against his own teammate Maurice Trapp and the completely free-standing Ducksch, Kühn then made strong parades that it was still 0-0 at the break.

Hannover was also better after the break and rewarded themselves with the lead.

Central defender Hübers hit after a cross from the half-field with a head.

Osnabrück was now a bit more offensive, but the front lacked penetration.

Shortly before the end, Bryan Henning hit the supposed equalizer, but the goal was not recognized because of an offside position.
