When fashion, fashion and beauty are mentioned, women are present at first glance, while the hands of men are mastered to satisfy the elusive tastes of women, which is common in the field.

Quite a number of designers around the world succeeded in occupying the top of the list of the best innovators in renewing women's clothing designs annually, and the man competed with women in designing girls' clothes of their sex, so he distinguished at times and succeeded in other times.

It was not easy for a group of Algerians to accept the exit of male women's fashion designers to the front, after the fingertips of their ancestors ran for years in the shadows, without seeking to promote themselves, and some see this as an escape from the persecution of those who reject it, while others explain it by waiting for the appropriate time.

Al Arayes Alley

The sight of the male tailors in the popular "Zanqa Al Arayes" market in the Kasbah district in the capital, Algeria, is not considered strange. It is sufficient for a woman to enter and ask about a professional in designing women's traditional dress so that the fingers point her to the men's shops of professionals in the profession.

They chose to work silently and quietly and remained immersed in their creativity and between those walls that were broken by another generation who chose to design for women in public, without fear of the societal view.

Designers were able to break the veneer that was hiding their work, choosing to represent art away from classifications, presenting a new aesthetic image of women in their country.

leap

In recent years, a number of designers have emerged in Algeria who have formed a boom in the field of women's fashion, and Samir Karzabi is considered one of the pioneers who created a different line in the field for themselves.

He talks to Al-Jazeera Net about his taking the craft from his grandmother, who used to weave traditional dress and how he hid his passion for designing for women, until he obtained a university degree and finally decided to declare his choice of design and ladies' fashion.

The designer recounts his shyness at the beginning of his career, saying, "I used to find it difficult to deal with clients, but after a short period of time I found that the issue is similar to the doctor’s treatment of his clients, not related to the gender of the customer."

"Today, after 30 years of experience, I am proud that I chose the field that I really like regardless of any societal considerations," Karzabi added. "The audience is looking for distinct and innovative pieces and does not care whether the design owner is a woman or a man. We have gone beyond the issue in stages in Algeria."

Asma, a 34-year-old fan of Karzabi’s designs, describes his work, saying, “When I attend his fashion shows, I get the idea that a man understands a woman’s body more than the women themselves.”

Karzabi confirms the idea by referring him to the reason for his success in the field and his departure from the local to the world by saying, "I deal with every dress on the basis that I design it for a princess. I focus on the smallest details that women may not notice. I like to design female clothes so that they appear in the image that I hope to see them on." .

He has presented a number of fashion shows in several capitals such as Paris (France) and Seoul (South Korea) as well as Dubai (UAE).

In addition to Cameroon and other countries, from which it was concluded that "design is masculine and softness is female."

To stardom

Amidst the shiny female names in the field of fashion in his country, the star of the young designer, El Din Belmahdi, broke into the field 10 years ago and opened his trademark 7 years later, during which he tried to present Algerian in its contemporary form.

Belmahdi tells Al-Jazeera Net that it is designed for women from a men's point of view.

He considers that the dress that he imagines for her is intended to pass an idea about different aspects that he carries as a man towards the female.

"I do not choose the colors arbitrarily, the shape of the embroidery, or the story. Every detail has an aesthetic message that I want to reach through the art that I present," he added.

Regarding the difference between women's determination of the daughters of their gender and what men offer in the same field, Belmahdi believes that "a woman may be jealous of her counterpart, even if only slightly, while the man always seeks to see her more dazzlingly."

Belmahdi participated in many fashion shows in Paris and elsewhere, but he focuses in his work on giving the traditional Algerian dress a new look without overriding the old structure.

A passion for design

On the other hand, a student in the field of fashion design, Juba Knight Makdoud, considers that his influence with a number of male names in the field of women's fashion in the world is what pushed him to choose to learn her academically.

"The section in which I study is all female, which was difficult at the beginning, but I got used to the idea, as my colleagues got used to me, and none of us feel the difference anymore, and the paper makes the matter in the end," Mekdoud added to Al-Jazeera Net.
