Lübeck (dpa / lno) - The public prosecutor's office has withdrawn its appeal against the acquittal of the former head of the victim protection organization Weißer Ring Lübeck.

A new expert opinion confirmed the doubts of the district court about the correctness of the testimony of the main witness, the public prosecutor announced on Monday.

The Lübeck district court acquitted the then 74-year-old in a circumstantial trial in September 2019 of the charge of exhibitionism.

The public prosecutor's office had appealed against this.

A spokeswoman for the public prosecutor said that this was withdrawn after the renewed report due to a lack of prospects of success.

According to an expert opinion, there were already doubts about the witness’s statements in the first trial.

The woman had accused the retired police officer of exposing himself to her during a consultation in April 2016.
