Restaurants can also reopen under certain conditions.

"I am really moved", reacts Emilia, a visitor to the Colosseum, Monday on Europe 1.

REPORTAGE

It's a symbol.

The Colosseum, famous Roman amphitheater and the most visited site in Italy before the Covid-19 pandemic, saw its visitors return on Monday, like many monuments in the country.

Against the grain of its European neighbors, Italy has relaxed anti-Covid restrictions in force in most of its regions, also allowing bars and restaurants to reopen to the public.

After almost three months of closure, the Colosseum therefore welcomed Italians who had reserved their seats online.

"I am really moved", reacts Emilia, a visitor, Monday on Europe 1.

"I rushed for this reopening"

Emilia is a tourist guide.

Like the people around them, she was able to enter the monument after taking her temperature and washing her hands with hydroalcoholic gel.

Regardless of the constraints, Emilia is delighted: "I missed the Colosseum very much. I rushed for this reopening. I can't wait to be able to share this magnificent monument again with tourists as soon as they return."

The vast majority of Italian regions are now classified as "yellow", that is to say at moderate risk, with the exception of Alto Adige (north), Umbria (center), Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily (south), classified as "orange" (medium risk).

No region is classified as "red", the highest level of risk.

Like the Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel has also reopened its doors in the Vatican.

This is also the case for the Uffizi Gallery in Florence or the archaeological site of Pompeii near Naples.

However, the reopening of museums only remains effective during the week, in order to avoid concentrations of people.

Restaurants open until 6 p.m.

This lowering of the level of risk, decided on the basis of criteria such as the occupancy rate of intensive care units or the rate of spread of the virus, also allows the reopening of bars and restaurants, which until now could only do more. take-out.

They can now welcome customers to their tables until 6 p.m., but in a limited number and respecting the rules of distancing.

Even if the curfew remains in force throughout the national territory from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., this relaxation is above all a political and symbolic choice.

This partial reopening will not, for example, completely erase the economic losses of museums during this period.

But Italy wants to give the sign of a resumption of cultural life which has been at a standstill for weeks.

On Sunday, the peninsula recorded 11,252 new cases of Covid, a figure down from the 12,715 recorded on Saturday.
