Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) has shown cautiousness when it comes to the question of possible relaxation of corona requirements, despite the falling number of infections.

By the next Prime Minister's Conference, expected on February 10, the federal and state governments hope for more clarity about the spread of the corona mutations, as Merkel said in a press conference in Berlin on the Monday after the vaccination summit.

That will play a role in the question of easing.

Merkel referred to the dramatic increase in the number of infections in Portugal, where the British variant of the corona virus had gained the upper hand in the lockdown.

“We don't want that,” emphasized the Chancellor.

The Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) said he saw the situation with a view to easing "extremely skeptical".

Even before the vaccination summit, Söder said it was not the time to talk about major easing.

On Monday evening, Söder warned again against making the mistake of rushing to relax if the risk of mutation increased.

"We are still a long way from what could lead to extensive easing," said Söder.

When it comes to stability and lockdown, he emphasized that "the option is more likely to be the better," he said.
