Cornelia Wåhlander, 11 years old, in Uppsala has been forced to learn to eat with a hole in her palate after having surgery to remove a tumor almost two years ago.

The plan is for the hole in Corneliasgom to be repaired through an operation.

From the beginning, the idea was that this would happen in the spring, but when the coronavirus came to Sweden, the surgery took place in the future.

She got a new appointment in November, but it was also canceled.

- It feels a bit like that.

I can not be angry with them, because I know how hard they have it with many patients and so on, she says.

Cornelia is just one of many children who have had to wait for surgery due to the pandemic.

In Uppsala, 20 percent of operations were canceled, partly because more staff were needed in coronary care.

- It's extremely worrying.

Behind each figure is a child who has a problem that we have not solved, says Elisabet Gustafson, head of pediatric surgery at the University Hospital.
