Washington / Beijing (dpa) - The Chinese smartphone provider Xiaomi is going to court in the USA to stop sanctions imposed by the Trump administration at the last minute.

Xiaomi was blacklisted by the US Department of Defense along with eight other Chinese companies in mid-January.

One consequence is that US investors should be banned from buying Xiaomi shares - and they should part with all shares by January 2022.

Xiaomi now argues in the lawsuit filed on Friday that the US government failed to adhere to necessary procedures.

And the allegation of alleged links to the Chinese military is also wrong.

Xiaomi is aiming, among other things, for an injunction to quickly suspend the sanctions.

Since the US administration changed after the end of President Donald Trump's term in office, the new Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and the new Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen have already been sued.

The government of the new President Joe Biden can reverse the sanctions - he has so far announced that Trump's China decisions will remain in force until an examination.

Trump had portrayed China as the greatest international threat to the United States over the years and, among other things, claimed during the election campaign without any evidence that Biden had been bought by Beijing.

Trump's government intensified a trade conflict with China and also took action against various Chinese companies.

The hardest hit was Huawei.

The network supplier and smartphone provider lost access to American technology - because of the allegation that the Chinese government could force it to cooperate far-reaching.

Huawei rejects this.

Before the sanctions, Huawei started to jump to the top of the world market in smartphone sales.

However, since the US bans, no new models with pre-installed Google services can be sold.

But these are extremely important for buyers in the West.

Sales of Huawei smartphones in China remained unaffected, but Huawei slipped worldwide.

Xiaomi filled the gap and established itself as number three in the market after Samsung and Apple.

Xiaomi grew up selling cheap but technically advanced smartphones on the Internet.

The company now has all sorts of devices on offer, from televisions to rice cookers.
