Berlin (dpa) - Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) has granted the financial supervisory authority Bafin joint responsibility for the accounting scandal surrounding the former Dax group Wirecard.

"Unfortunately, the financial supervisory authority has not seen through the apparently criminal activities at Wirecard," said Scholz of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Monday).

As a consequence, he wants to reform the supervision: "The Bafin is being reorganized in terms of organization and personnel," said Scholz.

"That mustn't happen again, we want a financial regulator with more bite."

The accounting scandal has meanwhile cost Bafin boss Felix Hufeld his job.

Vice President Elisabeth Roegele is also leaving her post.

The Wirecard scandal revealed that the financial supervisory authority needed a reorganization, said Scholz on Friday and announced that the results of an investigation by the Bafin will be presented this week.

The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance.

In the Wirecard case, auditors from EY had approved financial statements for years and are also confronted with the accusation of not looking closely.

The former Dax group Wirecard, now insolvent, had granted air bookings of 1.9 billion euros.
