The cities with the highest price increases: Caltanissetta for food (+ 4.2%), Cosenza for medical visits (+ 5.1%), Messina for social assistance (+ 4.6%), Palermo for administrative fees (+18, 6%).

The biggest discounts: Venice for hotels (-10.4%), Livorno for social assistance (-5.4%), Genoa for water and waste (-12%).

The National Consumers Union has conducted a study drawing up the complete ranking of the cities with the greatest increases or decreases in 2020 for the main goods and services, based on the average inflation detected by Istat.

In the face of a country in deflation, -0.2%, some cities recorded considerable increases in some product groups, with significant territorial disparities.

The capital that in 2020 has

the greatest increase in food products

(table no.1) is

Caltanissetta

with inflation equal to + 4.2%, in second place Trieste, Grosseto and Trapani (all at +3.1 %), then Perugia with + 2.9%.

On the other side of the ranking Parma, the only city in deflation, -0.1%, then Siena with + 0.1% and in third place Macerata, + 0.3%.

The Italian average is + 1.5%, equal to an increase in food expenditure, without drinks, of 77 euros for a typical family.

Among the big cities, Genoa is in 7th position with + 2.6% and, on the other front, Milan, 4th among the best with + 0.5%, one third of the Italian figure.

For

outpatient services

, i.e. specialist medical visits, dental and paramedical services, such as physiotherapy, the

worst city in Italy is Cosenza

, + 5.1%, then Trapani, + 4.6%, in third place Vicenza, +2 , 8%.

The best Lodi (-0.2%), Cagliari, Ferrara and Aosta (-0.1% for all).

Third, with no variation, among others, Milan and Naples.

The Italian average is + 0.9%.

Among the bad ones, Genoa, 5th with + 2.2% and Bari and Bolzano, eighth with + 2%.

The

kindergarten and primary school education

(Table no. 3) is a

blow to those who live in Forlì-Cesena

(+ 6.3%), Bolzano (+ 6.1%), Cosenza and Catanzaro (both +5.4 %).

Savings, on the other hand, even if contained, for those who live in Trieste (-1.6%), Lecco (-1.3%) and Ancona (-1%).

In Italy the average is + 1.4%.

Due to Covid, the increases in restaurant services are limited

(Table 4), i.e. restaurants, pizzerias, bars, pastry shops, delicatessen and rotisserie products.

In first place Grosseto (+ 3.7%), in 2nd Pordenone (+ 3.3%), in 3rd Trapani (+ 3.1%).

Unexpectedly, however, only

Bergamo (-0.7%) and La Spezia (-0.2%)

are in deflation

.

Evidently, when the restaurateurs were able to reopen, they did not lower the prices that on the national average mark a + 1.2%, affecting the budget of a family for 16.50 euros, apart from the closures.

Things are still decidedly different for accommodation services (Table 5), ie

hotels, pensions, bed and breakfasts and holiday villages

.

Due to the lockdown and the collapse in tourism demand, 42 out of 68 cities are in deflation.

The

record for Venice, where hotel prices plummet

by 10.4% in 2020, Trapani in second place, -8.5%, another tourist city par excellence in third, Florence with -7.6%.

On the opposite front, Cosenza (+ 4.2%), Terni (+ 3.6%) and Naples (+ 3.1%) are in 3rd place.

In Italy they drop by 1.6%.

Among the virtuous cities, Bologna (4th with -6%), Verona and Lucca (sixth with -5.6%), Rome (11th with -4.3%), Rimini (12th with -3.9) , Milan (13th with -3.8%) and Siena (15th with -3%).

Worrying, given the health emergency, the increases in social assistance

(Table No. 6) which includes nursing homes for the elderly, infant-toddler centers and home care services.

The worst cities are

Messina

(+ 4.6%), Pescara (+ 4.5%) and Vicenza (+ 4.1%), the best are Livorno (-5.4%), Pordenone (-3.8% ) and Cosenza (-2.1%).

Male Cagliari (7th, + 2.4%), Venice (8th, + 2.3%), Turin (9th, + 2%) and Naples (10th, + 1.8%).

As for the water supply and various services connected to the home (Table No. 7), i.e.

water

supply

, waste collection and condominium expenses

, a real

sting for those who live in Gorizia

(+ 6% compared to 2019), Palermo (+ 5.6%) and, in third place, Naples (+ 5.1%).

The most economical city is Genoa, -12%, then in second place Trapani, -6.8%, and on the lowest step of the podium Potenza, -6.4%.

Between Gorizia and Genoa the gap is 18 percentage points.

In Italy this item shows an increase of 0.5%.

Among the regional capitals there is the bad performance of Cagliari, 5th with + 4.4%, and Milan, 6th with + 4.2%.

Good Bari, 12th among the cities in contraction with -1.4% and Rome, 13th with -1.3%.

Finally,

the higher, even double-digit

, increases for Other NAC services which includes

administrative fees, legal services and funeral services

. In Palermo a record rise, equal to 18.6%, in second place Livorno with + 13.4% and in 3rd Genoa, + 11.4%. In first place for the discounts Lecco, -2%, followed by Brescia, -1.8% and Reggio Emilia, -1.1%. In Italy + 1.4%.
