The lifespan of a horse can usually be up to 25-30 years.

That a Shetland pony like Fritte can reach the age of 45 is very unique, says Flemming Winberg, chief veterinarian at Evidensia Hästsjukhuset Stav.

- Being over 40 can still be seen as incredibly unusual.

However, it is still quite common for smaller ponies to grow old (over 30) if they receive regular veterinary check-ups of general condition, teeth, holes and do not suffer from captivity.

"He is very charming"

Fritte lives in Forsa with the owners Charlotta Olofsson Bodin and Sten Bodin.

Charlotta says that despite his age, he loves food and scouting young mares from his pasture.

- It is very fun to have him and he is very charming.

"Few pass him unnoticed" - meet Fritte, one of the country's oldest horses in the video above.
