Former US President Barack Obama said that he was surprised by what he called "poor preparedness of the security services" during the attack on the Congress building in Washington, DC, at the beginning of last January.
Obama added in a television interview with the German television "ZDF" (ZDF) that these devices "were much more concerned and better prepared", when it came to the peaceful demonstrations of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, in reference to the protest movement that broke out last year. In Washington and several American cities, a protest against the police killing of African American George Floyd.
Obama noted that some observers believed that "the white protesters were treated relatively kindly by the police and security forces."
On January 6, hundreds of supporters of former US President Donald Trump stormed the Congress building, in an unprecedented violent act that killed 5 people - including a woman - and injured dozens.
The storming came after a crowd near Washington spoke in which Trump spoke and said that he was the one who won the presidency, and accused the Democratic Party of fraud and "stealing the elections," which was considered by observers as an incitement to storm the Congress building, which was witnessing at the same moment a joint session of the House and Senate to ratify the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential elections that took place on November 3 last.
Obama commented the day after the congressional attack, describing it as a "great moment of shame" and a "shame for our nation," and held Trump responsible for what happened.
Obama said at the time that the Chargé d'Affairs (meaning Trump) "who spread lies about legitimate elections for no reason is the one who incited violence."
