In the Mayor's election of Nishinoomote in Kagoshima Prefecture, the incumbent who opposes the plan to relocate the US military carrier-based aircraft training in Japan to an island in the city won.

In Nishinoomote City, Kagoshima Prefecture, the Ministry of Defense is proceeding with a plan to build a Self-Defense Forces facility on Mageshima in the city to serve as a relocation destination for USFJ carrier-based aircraft training.



In the Mayor's election of Nishinoomote City, which was voted on the 31st, the pros and cons of the plan became a big issue, and the incumbent Shunsuke Yaita, who opposes it, recommended by the Liberal Democratic Party and won the rookie who agreed with the plan by about 140 votes I did.



Mr. Yaita says, "Citizens are saying no to the national plan. I would like to talk with the country and try to solve the problem."



The turnout was 80.17%, 8.52 points higher than the previous time.



The Ministry of Defense has a policy of conducting environmental impact assessments in order to realize the plan, and will continue to carefully explain to the local community and seek their understanding.
