London (dpa) - Thomas Tuchel was in a good mood after the premiere victory with Chelsea.

The Blues won well deserved 2-0 (1-0) against Burnley FC under their new German coach in the Premier League and ended a week-long series of victories at home.

He was "very satisfied," said Tuchel.

In the table, Chelsea improved slightly and are now seventh.

The gap to leaders Manchester City is still a clear eleven points.

Timo Werner, who had not played in Tuchel's goalless Chelsea debut on Wednesday against Wolverhampton Wanderers and has been waiting for a league goal since November, made his starting eleven comeback at Stamford Bridge.

The goals were scored by two defenders: César Azpilicueta (40th minute) and Marcos Alonso (84th) scored for the superior hosts who missed numerous chances.

"That should be a sign for the guys on the attack when we need our defenders to score goals," said Tuchel jokingly.

He took Werner under protection.

«We cannot expect that to change from one minute to the next.

He's not the only striker in the world who is sensitive when he doesn't score. "

In contrast to Werner, Kai Havertz was initially left out.

Before the game, Tuchel had shown himself satisfied with the ex-Leverkusen player, but made the 21-year-old responsible.

"In the end, the question is whether he can handle it, whether he can show his teeth when things get tough," said Tuchel.

He brought Havertz ten minutes before the end.

The third German international at Chelsea, Antonio Rüdiger, had lost his regular place under Tuchel's predecessor Frank Lampard.

Against Burnley, the new coach relied on the defender from the start in his second game.

Man City had an unusually difficult time in the 1-0 (1-0) win against bottom line Sheffield United on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola, for whom it was the 500th win in his coaching career, also blamed the weather.

"I saw the wind and the icy conditions (before the game)," said Guardiola, "and I immediately said it was going to be one of the toughest games we're playing this season."

Gabriel Jesus (9th) scored the early winning goal.

But the guests from Sheffield were defensive for long stretches and even had a chance to equalize in the end.

There was praise from Guardiola for this.

"They had bad moments, but they are well organized."

The non-relegation places are increasingly out of sight.

Record champions Manchester United, until recently the front runner, did not get past 0-0 at Arsenal - too little.

"We had enough chances to score", coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer quarreled with the haul.

"We can see that as a step forward after Wednesday night," he said, looking at the embarrassing 2-1 home draw against Sheffield during the week.

The goalless draw was not enough for Arsenal either.

The Gunners are stuck in the middle of the table.

Even more than two lost away points, Man United was annoyed by racist insults against their players.

After Anthony Martial and Axel Tuanzebe, England professional Marcus Rashford reported on abuse on the Internet.

“Humanity and social media at their worst,” wrote the 22-year-old on Saturday after the game on Twitter.

Other footballers had also reported offensive messages during the week.
