Berlin (dpa) - Federal Police President Dieter Romann has accused the airline of not complying with the regulations to combat the corona pandemic.

"In the last six days alone, the federal police found around 600 violations by aviation companies when entering the country by air," said Romann of "Bild am Sonntag".

For example, passengers from high-incidence and mutation areas who could not present a digital registration and / or a current negative corona test, although this must be checked by the aviation company before departure, are said to have entered.

"That is irresponsible," said Romann.

A lack of controls is also a reason for the entry bans imposed.

Romann emphasized: "The airlines are now threatened with fines from the health authorities of up to 25,000 euros for each violation and passenger."

Since Saturday there have been extensive entry bans for people from countries in which particularly contagious virus variants are rampant.

The United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, South Africa and Brazil are affected, and the African states Lesotho and Eswatini will be added from this Sunday.

There is also a transport ban for airlines, rail, bus and shipping companies until February 17th.

Exceptions apply to all Germans and foreigners living in Germany as well as to transit passengers and the movement of goods.

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer also called for strict controls on the quarantine measures for Germans arriving from high-risk areas.

“The health authorities need massive support for controls with personnel from the armed forces, technical relief organizations and other authorities from the state and federal government.

We must prevent and fight the spread of the corona mutation by all means, "said the CSU politician of" Bild am Sonntag ".

Seehofer appealed to all travelers returning from high-risk areas: "Go into quarantine, stay at home - anything else would be irresponsible."
