Magdeburg (dpa) - After controversial statements by the Magdeburg city councilor about Chancellor Angela Merkel, the incumbent party leader Marco Tullner protested against outside interference.
The CDU in Saxony-Anhalt does not need any information from Berlin to clarify the relationship with the AfD, Tullner told the German press agency on Saturday.
"The CDU in Magdeburg as well as the city council of the state capital will evaluate the unacceptable statements and advise on how to proceed."
The colleagues on site do not need outside interference.
Statements by Magdeburg city council chairman Michael Hoffmann about Chancellor Merkel and the corona policy are currently causing heated discussions.
The CDU local politician had, among other things, called for "freedom instead of Merkel" on Facebook with bonds to the SED regime in the GDR and railed against the virologist Christian Drosten.
Since then, there has been a debate about the personality, but also about the relationship of the CDU to the right.
The General Secretary of the Federal FDP, Volker Wissing, took the reports as an opportunity to demand a reaction from the new CDU chief Armin Laschet.
"The incidents in Saxony-Anhalt are symptomatic of the inner turmoil in the Union," said Wissing of the "Rheinische Post" (online).
It will be one of the most urgent tasks to clarify the relationship with the AfD.
