[Explanation] Recently, the explosion accident at the Hushan gold mine in Yantai, Shandong has caused widespread concern in the society.

On January 29, at a press conference held by the State Information Office, Zhao Suqi, director of the Investigation and Statistics Department of the State Mine Safety Supervision Bureau, responded to the late reporting and concealment of the accident.

 [Commentary] Zhao Suqi introduced that after the "1·10" explosion accident at the Hushan gold mine in Yantai, Shandong, the emergency management department dispatched national mine professional rescue forces and large-scale professional equipment to rush to support, and do everything possible to rescue the trapped people.

 As of the 24th, 11 people have been rescued, 10 miners were killed, and one person is still missing. The search for one missing person is still ongoing.

 [Commentary] Zhao Suqi said that on January 27, the Office of the State Council Security Committee interviewed the person in charge of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, the main person in charge of the Provincial Emergency Management Department, and the main person in charge of the Yantai Municipal People's Government.

 The interview pointed out that after the "1·10" accident at the Hushan Gold Mine in Yantai, Shandong, the mine was late in reporting and concealing the report, which was serious in nature and had a bad impact. It revealed that the three-year Shandong special rectification action was not thorough and solid, and the violation of laws and regulations Inadequate crackdown, inadequate learning of the lessons of safety production accidents in mines, increasing risks of major disasters, failure to implement the main responsibility of enterprises, insufficient emergency rescue and handling capabilities, and inadequate local supervision.

The State Council Safety Committee has decided to supervise the accident, urge the investigation of the cause of the accident and the reasons for late reporting and concealment, and serious accountability in accordance with laws and regulations, and give an account to the families of the victims and the society.

 [Explanation] At the press conference, the relevant person in charge also introduced the recent “look back” on the implementation of the 12 particularly serious and 120 major production safety accidents that occurred from 2015 to 2019 by the Office of the State Council’s Security Committee.

 Speaking of coal mine safety work, Zhao Suqi introduced that since 2016, China has eliminated more than 4,800 coal mines, withdrew production capacity of nearly 800 million annually, and 48 coal-producing cities have withdrawn from the coal mining industry as a whole.

He pointed out that in 2020 the number of accidents and deaths in China's coal mines has dropped significantly.

 In 2020, 123 accidents occurred in coal mines nationwide and 228 people died, a year-on-year decrease of 27.6% and 27.8% respectively.

Although coal mine safety production has achieved remarkable results, we are also clearly aware that the coal mine safety situation is still grim. Major accidents have occurred from time to time, especially since last September, three major accidents have occurred in a row in more than two months. Coal mine accident.

 [Explanation] Zhao Suqi pointed out that in the next step, relevant departments will carry out comprehensive coal mine safety investigations, deepen the "three-year action" of special rectification of coal mine safety production, eliminate and withdraw all types of coal mines that do not have safety conditions, and severely crack down on violations of laws and regulations and pass accidents.
