The European Football Association (UEFA) is considering introducing major amendments to the Champions League, the largest international competition at the club level, with the aim of granting additional advantages to the major teams and preventing them from proceeding with the "Super League" project that they are planning.

The Spanish newspaper "AS" reported that the President of the European Football Association, Alexander Ceferin, had established a committee of experts working on the structural and logistical aspects of the new competition, and formed a working group of football officials to make final decisions on the project.

Ceferin is negotiating with 5 representatives of the European Club Association, led by Juventus president Andrea Agnelli.

The newspaper pointed out that thinking about the new project has accelerated recently, with reports confirming the determination of the top clubs to proceed with the "Super League" project, which guarantees independence for them with their own competition and access to greater financial resources.

Ceferin seeks to provide guarantees to major clubs that include a greater role in running the new version of the Champions League, by establishing a company to organize the competition that includes representatives from UEFA and the clubs, as well as reviewing the profit distribution system to ensure greater benefit for these clubs.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the new version is scheduled to start in 2024, but the tournament may start sooner than that if the convergence of views in the negotiations continues to date.

She emphasized that the negotiations on the project, which is supported by the International Federation (FIFA), focus mainly on how to manage and organize the new competition and how to distribute the income it generates.

It is expected that the new competitions will affect the local championships, and the space for local cups may be limited to only 4 or 5 days of matches, and the local leagues will include 18 teams at most.
