Aachen (dpa) - The Aachen pastry manufacturer Lambertz has so far got through the Corona crisis well with its range of Printen, Christmas stollen and gingerbread.

The Lambertz Group's sales in the 2019/2020 financial year were at the previous year's level at 637 million euros, the company announced on Saturday.

Lambertz owner Hermann Bühlbecker reported that the failure of the Christmas markets, the reduced number of visitors in the inner cities and the deserted airports led to a drop in sales in some sales channels.

But this was compensated by the increased demand in the food trade.

The company's boss said that the cool weather conditions and the fact that consumers like to treat themselves to something sweet, especially in bitter times, would have contributed to the overall positive overall result.

Lambertz benefits here from the longing for normality and homeliness.

There was also sales growth in the online business.

In export, however, things did not go so well.

Here Lambertz suffered from sales losses in Spain and France caused by strict lockdowns.

The reduction in social contacts also led to a decline in sales in the “biscuit mixes” segment, which are normally mainly consumed in family circles and at conferences.

In this financial year, the family company wants to return to growth.

While in the first phases of the crisis the focus was on continuing to guarantee production and supply to the retail trade, the main thing now is to continue the company's dynamism and tackle new goals, said Bühlbecker.

The company is hoping for a tailwind from its 333 year anniversary.
