Berlin / Munich (dpa) - After the approval of the Astrazeneca corona vaccine, the federal and state governments are working on an adjustment of the previous vaccination strategy.

A result was already apparent in a video link from the federal and state health ministers on Saturday: According to a recommendation by the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), the preparation should only be vaccinated in 18- to 64-year-olds.

That said the current chairman of the health ministers conference, Bavaria's head of department Klaus Holetschek (CSU), at the request of the German press agency in Munich.

However, the detailed consultations should continue on Monday evening.

Apart from that, according to Holetschek, it was already becoming apparent that the previous prioritization order would remain.

It is also under discussion that in particular cases of hardship, vaccinations should in future also be possible for people who are actually not yet in turn according to the current vaccination sequence.

Individual states, including Bavaria and Hamburg, have already announced or set up special vaccination commissions for this purpose in order to be able to decide on special individual cases.

On Friday, the Stiko, based at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), recommended the Astrazeneca vaccine only for people aged 18 to 64 years.

To assess the effectiveness of the vaccine from 65 years, there are not yet sufficient data, it said.

Previously, the EU Medicines Agency (EMA) had recommended Europe-wide approval of the vaccine, for adults from 18 years of age without an age limit.

Holetschek said about the age limit recommended by Stiko that it is hoped that further data will soon be available that will make it possible to reconsider the Astrazeneca vaccine for people aged 65 and over.

At the same time, he emphasized that he expected the vaccination summit this Monday to speak in clear language and find pragmatic solutions.

"If we don't want to risk jeopardizing people's trust in the vaccination, we now finally need reliability in deliveries and long-term planning of the delivery quantities," emphasized the CSU politician.
