Berlin / Düsseldorf (dpa) - The former Greens federal spokesman, member of the Bundestag and Greens co-founder Wilhelm Knabe is dead. The federal party announced on Saturday in Berlin, citing Knabe's family: “We mourn Wilhelm Knabe.
With him, our party has lost one of its co-founders and formative minds from the early years. "
Knabe was central to the environmental and ecological movement and played a key role in shaping the Greens.
"We all owe him a lot."
Knabe also led the decisive vote when the federal party was founded in Karlsruhe in 1980.
According to the North Rhine-Westphalian state association of the Greens, the boy died at the age of 97.
Knabe was a founding member of the regional association in 1979 and then became its first regional chairman.
"Then Knabe was also the federal spokesman for the Greens and from 1987 to 1990 a member of the Bundestag."
The two regional leaders Mona Neubaur and Felix Banaszak announced: "With Wilhelm Knabe, our regional association is losing a formative personality from the founding years and the decades that followed."
Knabe played a key role in shaping the party.
