Kaiserslautern (AP) - The crisis-ridden 1. FC Kaiserslautern has separated from coach Jeff Saibene.

The third division soccer team announced this on Saturday evening, a few hours after the 0: 1 against SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

The 52-year-old from Luxembourg took over from head coach Boris Schommers in October 2020.

"1. FC Kaiserslautern released head coach Jeff Saibene and assistant coach Ryszard Komornicki for sporting reasons with immediate effect," said the Fritz Walter Club.

The succession plan will be informed promptly.

The Palatinate are still one victory this year and are deep in the relegation battle with only 21 points from 22 games.

The four-time German champion had recently completed the insolvency procedure in self-administration to get rid of his debt.

In terms of sport, however, things are still going very badly at the traditional club.

On the 22nd matchday, FCK presented a desolate performance against Wiesbaden in the rainy Fritz-Walter-Stadion and remained almost without a real chance of scoring for the entire duration of the game.

FCK goalkeeper Avdo Spahic prevented the hosts from falling behind with several strong saves before the break.

Even after the restart, the game mostly only ran in the direction of the Lauterer Tor.

Substitute Kevin Lankford scored after 69 minutes for Wiesbaden.
