January 30, 2021 An avalanche in Valle Maira, in Acceglio (Cuneo) has buried a ski mountaineer, now hospitalized in serious condition.

The man was in a group of about 10 ski mountaineers, all of whom were unharmed.

The accident occurred at around 2,800 meters shortly after 13 today, along the ridge that connects Mount Sautron and Rocca Praboccia.

The detachment had a front of about 50 meters and fell downstream for about 150 meters.

When the ski mountaineer was buried, he was in cardiac arrest and in hypothermic conditions when he was recovered by rescuers under more than a meter of snow.

The health team, however, managed to revive him and transfer him to the air ambulance with which he was taken to the hospital in red code.

The companions, on the other hand, went down to the valley where the Alpine Rescue staff of the Guardia di Finanza were waiting for them.

The Fire Brigade also intervened on the spot.

Not far away in the Cuneo area, another ski mountaineer sustained a suspected fracture in his leg.
