Eight minors and an adult suspected of having participated in the assault on young Yuriy were to be presented to an examining magistrate on Saturday.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the Paris prosecutor's office is asking for the indictment of five of these young people for "attempted murder" and a sixth for "complicity in an attempted murder". 

The Paris prosecutor's office said on Saturday that it had opened a judicial information concerning the assault in mid-January of the young Yuriy and a source close to the case told AFP that the indictment of five young people for "attempted murder" has been required.

"A judicial investigation was opened today on the counts of attempted assassination and complicity in the attempted assassination, participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing a crime and theft with violence resulting in total incapacity for work more than eight days, "the Paris prosecutor's office told AFP.

"Requests for placement in pre-trial detention were taken against six minors and one adult", while the placement under judicial supervision was requested for the "two remaining minors", further indicated the prosecution.

Three young people released without prosecution

Eleven minors, aged 15 to 17, and an adult, aged 18, mainly domiciled in Vanves (92), had been placed in police custody Thursday and Friday.

Three have been released without prosecution at this point.

"They are suspected of having formed a group in order to prepare a violent collective action against another group of people in reaction to a previous brawl" on January 10, in the 15th arrondissement, which itself makes the 'subject of a separate investigation, the prosecutor said.

A 15-year-old college student, Yuriy was taken to hospital in serious condition after being severely beaten on the evening of January 15.

He was then with friends on the slab of Beaugrenelle, the converted roof of a shopping center in the 15th arrondissement, a wealthy district of the capital.

A sharp stir within the political class

The broadcast on social networks on January 22 of twenty seconds of images of his attack had caused a stir, within the political class as among celebrities.

We see a dozen young people in sports clothes and hooded jackets kicking and beating, or sticks, on a person on the ground, before abandoning him.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Yuriy had "a screwdriver in his pocket" during his assault.
