Berlin (dpa) - While the taxi industry is hoping to compensate for part of the revenue losses of the Corona crisis with trips to vaccination centers, Uber is advancing with a free offer.

The travel agent is initially offering 10,000 journeys of up to 15 euros for the first group of entitled persons.

If the fare is higher, the difference must be paid.

The company stressed that Uber will pay the costs itself.

In Berlin, for example, older people can currently be driven to the vaccination center by taxi at the expense of the state.

The taxi and rental car association announced at the beginning of the month that the taxi industry is ready to work on this model nationwide.

According to the association, the industry suffers from sales losses of up to 90 percent.

At Uber, too, the pandemic is clearly putting pressure on the core business with transport services, while there is a clear increase in food delivery in the Uber Eats sub-service.

Uber is active in Germany in Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Munich.

The driver service broker and the taxi industry have been fighting over competition in the market for years.
