Hanau (dpa / lhe) - Because of the tense flood situation, hardware stores in Hanau are allowed to sell materials to private individuals that are suitable for flood protection from Saturday.

Due to the corona pandemic, DIY stores are closed to private customers in lockdown.

Since the delivery of the increased demand for sand, sandbags, tarpaulins and pumps cannot be organized within the scope of the currently permitted online ordering and collection on site, Lord Mayor Claus Kaminsky decided to allow an opening for private individuals, the city announced on Friday evening .

The current flood situation in the surrounding area and the wave to be expected in Hanau on Sunday and Monday would currently ensure increased demand for materials that are necessary to secure the property from flood damage.

"However, sales to everyone must be limited to the range that is required for flood protection," said Kaminsky.

He asks citizens to heed and respect this in order to avoid unnecessary delays in the hardware stores.
