Wuppertal (dpa) - A 39-year-old from Solingen is on trial today on suspicion of abuse of his own children.

The man had made a confession before the trial at the Wuppertal district court and incriminated six other suspects.

He seems to be part of a larger network with connections to the two large child abuse complexes of Münster and Bergisch Gladbach.

Immediately after the trial began, the public was excluded to protect the children.

The Solinger is accused of abusing his own children 42 times.

He was arrested on vacation at a campsite in Rösrath near Cologne.

As the investigation showed, he also hoarded half a million child pornographic files.

There were also recordings of his own children: his now ten-year-old son and his 13-year-old daughter.

During the search of the Solinger's apartment, a large amount of data carriers had been seized.

At that time, several terabytes of data were assumed.

Sniffer dogs specially trained to search for data carriers were used.

A notice from US authorities is said to have started the investigation in September 2019.

The trail led to the address in Solingen.

The 39-year-old's apartment was searched for the first time in December 2019, and a second time in June.

The family's car and trailer had been seized.

The accused's wife is also being investigated because she knew about the abuse of her children but is said not to have intervened.

Her husband is also accused of cheating.
