Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - Disappointed faces at the German aces Gesa Krause and Christina Schwanitz at the international athletics meeting in Karlsruhe: At the start of the World Indoor Tour in the Europahalle, model runner Krause came over 1500 meters and the former shot put world champion Schwanitz on Friday evening each only in fifth place.

The event took place as a pure TV event with an extensive hygiene concept, corona tests for all participants and without spectators and journalists.

For the 36th edition of the meeting with 130 athletes, the organizers had moved from the fair back to the Europahalle.

Krause did not have the hoped-for lively start to the Olympic year.

The two-time World Cup third over 3000 meters obstacle from the New Year's Eve Trier club was clearly behind her best time in 4: 15.38 minutes on the unfamiliar 1500 meter course.

“It's not a great time.

You need this routine, it was simply missing, "said Krause.

"The 4:15 shows that it is a very, very long way."

Katharina Trost from Munich gave a German victory in 4: 12.02 minutes.

Schwanitz from LV 90 Erzgebirge came five days after 19.11 meters in Chemnitz to only 18.27 meters.

The 35-year-old managed the feat of covering this distance three times.

The Portuguese winner Auriol Dongmo shone with the national record of 19.65 meters.

The British Dina Asher-Smith delivered a top time as the winner over 60 meters.

The outdoor world champion over 200 meters won in 7.08 seconds.

The best German was Lisa Mayer from Wetzlar in fourth in 7.21 seconds.

In doing so, she also undercut the norm for the European Indoor Championships in Torun / Poland at the beginning of March.

"It couldn't have gone better," said the 24-year-old.

In the pole vault, top favorite Renaud Lavillenie from France jumped to a strong 5.95 meters and only failed at 6.00 meters.

The 2012 Olympic champion left behind, among others, former world champions Raphael Holzdeppe (Zweibrücken / 5.62) and Torben Blech.

For his part, the Leverkusen man was happy about 5.72 meters - he had never jumped so high under the hall roof.

While long jump local hero Julian Howard was absent due to Achilles tendon complaints, his Karlsruhe club colleague Christoph Kessler was able to convince: The German runner-up in the world-class field over 800 meters was only sixth, but set a personal best with 1: 47.20 minutes.

The British Elliot Giles won in 1: 45.50 minutes.
