Schwerin / Berlin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has spoken out in favor of the new edition of the child bonus paid in the previous year to alleviate the consequences of corona.

"The current pressure in families is huge," Schwesig told the news portal "ThePioneer" (Friday).

Many families have to get by with little money at this time.

That is why it is important to support them financially.

“In 2020 we paid a child bonus of 300 euros for the families.

I would like the federal government to pay this bonus in 2021, ”said Schwesig.

In the Corona year 2020, the government coalition had arranged for a bonus of 300 euros to be paid out to parents in addition to the monthly child benefit in order to help the families and also to stimulate consumption.

According to Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey (SPD), more than 4 billion euros have been paid out for around 16 million children.

On Wednesday, the minister had already indicated that such a corona child bonus could be offered again this year.

"We have had very good experiences with it," she said in the Bundestag.
