Rostock (dpa / mv) - The Federal Ministry of Transport is giving more than 200,000 euros for part of the rapid cycle route, which is to connect Rostock main train station with Warnemünde.

"With our financial support, the state can now plan another section of the Rostock cycle highway," said Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) on Friday.

It is about a 2.5-kilometer section between Lichtenhagen and Warnemünde.

The first high-speed cycle route in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is being built in Rostock.

A section was released last May.

The connection will help relieve traffic in the city and help protect the climate, said Christian level (SPD), the state's infrastructure minister.

Lord Mayor Claus Ruhe Madsen (independent) hopes that the project will help to get even more people excited about cycling.

An ADAC study was published on Friday: According to this, road users in medium-sized cities in Germany are only more satisfied with mobility in Münster than in Rostock.

When it comes to cycling, Rostock came in eighth of the 29 medium-sized cities examined - and even in first place for local public transport.
