Berlin / Cologne (dpa) - The folk music and pop singer Stefanie Hertel (41) found it harder than initially expected to undress for a TV show.

"When I agreed to support the show project to educate me, I was not even aware of what it would cost in front of the camera to overcome skin," she told the German press agency.

In the program "Showtime of my Life - Stars against Cancer" (Vox, February 1st, 8:15 pm) Hertel wants to draw attention to the topic of cancer prevention.

The performance was “a rollercoaster of emotions”, said the musician (“A Brückerl goes over every Bacherl”).

She had her motivation in mind as well as the stories of the other participants.

“The most touching thing for me was that of Nicole Staudinger, bestselling author, who amputated both breasts herself.

She really is an incredibly strong woman who has touched us all deeply with her story, »said Hertel, who comes from Saxony and lives in Bavaria.

She herself came into contact with the disease in her environment, but did not want to talk about it at the request of those affected.

With one exception: "The aggressive and courageous way my dance teacher handled her mastectomy impresses me to this day."

She had breast cancer while teaching Hertel, a teenager.

“She is now over 90 and still in top shape.

That's why I know: Go to cancer screening, that's so important - if you recognize it early on, it's easily curable. "

Hertel, who became known as a singer, now also moderates.

She travels with her dirndl rock band, sang rock and pop hits on the show "The Masked Singer" two years ago and has released a country album with her daughter Johanna Mross and her husband, the singer-songwriter Lanny Lanner.
