Magdeburg / Halle (dpa / sa) - The two largest cities in Saxony-Anhalt did well in a survey of the population on the mobility situation.

Both Magdeburg (4th place) and Halle (9th place) occupied a place in the top third of the ranking.

The survey by the automobile club ADAC was carried out in 29 medium-sized German cities last year.

Pedestrians and people in local public transport in particular gave the state capital top marks.

Once again, the cyclists in Halle are particularly satisfied.

They received the highest levels of satisfaction in the “ADAC Monitor 2020”.

More than half of the public transport users in Magdeburg said they were satisfied or very satisfied.

Above all, they described the short transfer routes and the space available in the vehicles as a major plus point for the city.

Magdeburg achieved the best scores nationwide in these categories.

Pedestrians praised the width of the sidewalks and the waiting time at traffic lights.

In Halle, a good 40 percent of the public transport users were satisfied or very satisfied.

Short transfer routes, the density of stops and the signage were positively noted.

The price-performance ratio, the number of parking spaces at the stations and train stations and compliance with hygiene measures were negative.

Cyclists criticized the narrow width of the cycle paths and the lack of availability of public rental bicycles.

The ADAC Monitor is a nationwide survey of more than 11,600 residents and commuters.

The respondents are mobile by car, public transport, bicycle or on foot.

Around 400 people from the region were surveyed for both Magdeburg and Halle.
