Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - In the fight against the illegal speeder and tuner scene, the Dortmund police president has ordered a so-called strategic manhunt.

This means that vehicles and people can be checked without specific suspicion, according to a statement from the police on Friday.

Drivers could be asked about their identity and vehicles checked.

The strategic manhunt is to be used on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Affected are the Wallring in the city center, part of Brackeler Strasse, which leads into Dortmund's northern part, and Bundesstrasse 236.

«The strategic manhunt was brought in with the new version of the Police Act NRW in 2018.

It extends our powers to intervene and has already proven itself several times in other areas of crime.

We are determined to take all legally permissible means against the rage scene, ”said Police President Gregor Lange according to the announcement.

With the wall around the inner city center, Dortmund is considered a stronghold of the speeding and tuner scene in Westphalia.

Most recently, the city had ordered 30 km / h on the wall for noise protection.

In the last few weeks hundreds of vehicles and drivers have been checked for violations of the road traffic regulations and corona protection regulations on the weekends.

Numerous cars and driver's licenses were confiscated.

Most recently, a special unit from Cologne supported the police in Dortmund.
