Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After the decline in recent months, unemployment in the southwest is likely to have increased again in January.

Experts assume that both the number of people without a job and the unemployment rate have increased compared to December.

This would mean that the figures would then be significantly higher than the previous year's level.

In December, exactly 264,521 people were registered as unemployed in Baden-Württemberg, slightly fewer than in November.

The rate was 4.2 percent.

However, the figures were collected as of December 10th.

This means that it did not take into account any consequences of the corona lockdown that was tightened before Christmas.

In January 2020, a good 220,500 people in the country were without a job.

That corresponded to a rate of 3.5 percent.

As a result of the Corona crisis, the number of unemployed had initially increased steadily from March.

The trend reversal only came in September and the numbers fell again for the first time.

The regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency publishes the current statistics today.
