Renningen (dpa / lsw) - With a diversionary maneuver, two young men tried to evade arrest for attempted theft.

The 17- and 18-year-olds are said to have scouted cars in Renningen-Malmsheim (Boeblingen district), as the police announced on Friday.

When a resident approached them, the two fled towards the center of the village.

Several patrol cars went into chase late Thursday evening.

Shortly afterwards, the officers received a dubious emergency call.

A Mr. Metzger wanted to have seen two suspicious people in a completely different direction.

But two patrol cars and a police helicopter could not find anyone.

The officials assume that the wrong 911 call came from the suspects.

The young men had meanwhile called a taxi to take them back to Stuttgart.

Police forces positioned themselves nearby.

As the men approached the taxi, they noticed the officers and tried to escape again.

They were arrested minutes later.

The duo is now being investigated for attempted theft and possibly also for misuse of emergency calls.
