January 29, 2021 It starts with sweeping inspections of Chinese coal mines.

Those that do not meet the safety conditions for miners will be closed.

An official from the National Mine Safety Administration said today.

The aim, he said, is to protect occupational safety.

In a press conference, Zhao Suqi, director of the administration's investigation and statistics department, said the coal mine inspections are part of a three-year special campaign to tighten up on security breaches in coal mines.

Zhao added that vigorous efforts will be made to promote smart coal mining.

In 2020, 3.84 billion tons were extracted.

A production that, however, does not seem to go in the direction of the commitment that President Xi Jinping made last September before the UN General Assembly, to bring China to zero emissions in 2060 and reach the maximum emission point in the next 10 years.
