Aachen (dpa / lnw) - The boiling requirement for drinking water in Aachen was lifted on Friday.

On Tuesday, coli bacteria were discovered in the drinking water during a routine check in the city of 250,000.

It was then recommended that drinking water be boiled.

All other evaluated samples were inconspicuous, announced the municipal utility on Friday.

The bottom line was that there was only one sample with an "extremely small amount of bacteria".

"This means that the precautionary law issued by the health department can now be lifted with immediate effect."

In retrospect, one could say that the drinking water in Aachen was always perfect.

Presumably it was a mix-up of sampling, said a spokeswoman for the municipal utilities.

This is of course very annoying for consumers, but safety comes first.

"We very much regret that we caused the citizens this inconvenience," said Rudolf Roß, head of the water department at the municipal utility.
