Ingolstadt (dpa) - At Audi in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, almost 10,000 employees will be returning from short-time working next week.

Delivery bottlenecks for chips for the electronic control had forced the VW subsidiary to cut back production in the second half of January.

Now the two German plants are going back to regular shifts, said an Audi spokeswoman on Friday.

The car and engine plant in Györ, Hungary, which has been operating in one shift up to now, will also be operating in three shifts again from Monday.

In Mexico, production will gradually ramp up to normal over the next two weeks.

The VW main plant in Wolfsburg is still closed for four days in February.

Shortages in semiconductors had hit several car manufacturers recently.

For semiconductor manufacturers, demand from the automotive industry had risen for years, but it really collapsed in the Corona crisis.

The chip manufacturers quickly found new customers, for example in consumer electronics.
