Munich (dpa / lby) - After reports of an animal scandal in the Passau district, the SPD is demanding clarification.

The SPD MPs Ruth Müller and Martina Fehlner asked the government to clarify why the authorities did not react faster.

According to the media, private animal husbandry with more than 100 different animals on a former Bundeswehr site has now been finally closed.

Accordingly, monkeys, alpacas and reptiles were confiscated during a raid.

During a raid last summer, several violations of the Animal Welfare Act were found.

Criminal charges were filed against the owner.

Müller now asked: “How can it be that several violations of animal welfare law were discovered in the summer of 2020, but the responsible administration is only now reacting?

The nightmare for the animals lasted for months. "

The SPD MPs want to know, among other things, how the authorities became aware of the conditions and how many more reviews there have been since the summer.

In addition, there is the question of why groups of visitors had access even though a criminal complaint had already been filed.
