According to a survey, the new US President Joe Biden has higher approval ratings than his predecessor Donald Trump in his entire term of office after almost a week in office.

This was the result of a survey published on Wednesday (local time) by the University of Monmouth in the US state of New Jersey.

Accordingly, 54 percent of those surveyed rated the democrat's administration as positive.

30 percent saw it as negative, 16 percent abstained.

The approval ratings for the Republican Trump were between 39 and 44 percent in surveys by the independent institute during his tenure, according to another study by Monmounth University.

"In Trump's tenure, he had never had the majority of Americans behind him," said director Patrick Murray.

However, opinions differed greatly from one party to the next when it came to assessing the new president.

While 90 percent of Democrats were in favor of Biden, only 15 percent of Republicans were in favor.

The respondents were more optimistic about the Democrats' policies when he took office (61 percent) than they were with Trump four years ago (50 percent).

35 percent were pessimistic about Biden's policies, and when Trump took office it was 43 percent.

Biden had already reversed several controversial decisions of Trump in the first hours after taking office on January 20.

Among other things, he initiated the return of the USA to the Paris Climate Agreement and to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In addition, the democrat lifted the entry ban from Muslim countries and suspended funding for the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico.
