Last week, the government announced that sports leisure and cultural activities for children born in 2005 and later may reopen.

But despite that message, the municipality of Sölvesborg chooses to keep its operations closed.

This is now met by major protests from several associations in the municipality.

Eleven associations have now signed an open letter sent to the Joint Board demanding that the municipal sports halls be reopened.

- I feel quite sad and disappointed.

It is a betrayal of our children and young people who have longed to start training again, says Anna Lindh, chairman of Sölvesborgsgymnasterna.

In their open letter, the associations also refer to a recently presented study from Bris which shows a perceived increased feeling of anxiety among children and young people during the pandemic.

- It feels very sad to have to isolate and limit more than we have to.

Stick to the decision

The chairman of the leisure and culture committee says that the issue will be discussed further, but that they are currently sticking to their decision.

- I really only have one comment and that is that the Co-operation Council cares about the people and their health.

We do this by trying to minimize the risk of infection.

We have a policy and we follow it.

What others do for what they stand for.
