The head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Iran, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, said yesterday that 20% uranium enrichment in the country at the Fordo complex is ahead of the planned schedule.

The Iranian Mehr News Agency quoted Qalibaf as saying during his visit to the Fordo uranium enrichment complex: "The nuclear law has been implemented step by step, and uranium enrichment is 20% ahead of schedule."

"I came today (yesterday) to visit Fordow, in accordance with the approved field monitoring law and the strategic law for lifting sanctions, which were approved by the Shura Council," Qalibaf said.

He said, "I saw the implementation of this law step by step."

He added, "Regarding uranium enrichment at a rate of 20%, 120 kilograms of (enriched) uranium were to be produced annually, but the progress was far ahead of the deadline, and the nuclear plant was able to enrich 17 kilograms of uranium within about a month."

He pointed out that «the Iranian parliament’s ratification of lifting the ban is based on Articles 36 and 37 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and whenever the other parties return to their practical obligations, this law allows the Iranian administration to return to its obligations.
