Hamburg / Kiel / Schwerin (dpa) - Building a snowman and snowball battle: In the north it will be wintry in the coming days.

In Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania it will snow and be cold, said meteorologist Michael Bauditz from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Thursday.

"It will start late on Friday morning and last into the night."

But the white splendor will not be so pronounced in all parts.

"The cold temperatures will continue until Tuesday."

Only then will it get warmer again.

"A deep pulls from the North Sea over North Germany to East Germany," said the meteorologist.

"In the south it will rain, in Hamburg it will be snow."

It is still unclear how high the quantities will really be.

"Many models show five to ten centimeters that are possible near the Elbe."

The further north or northeast you get, the weaker it gets (one to five centimeters).

"Almost all areas should get snow," said Bauditz.

Only towards the Danish border could it be enough for a few flakes at most.
