Schonungen (dpa / lby) - Investigators have assigned a skull found in Lower Franconia to a woman who has been missing for ten years.

The then 74-year-old did not return after a walk in Schonungen (Schweinfurt district) in September 2010, the police said on Thursday.

Her husband reported her missing.

Police, fire brigade and emergency services searched for the woman with helicopters and search dogs for several days.

The investigations were unsuccessful.

In November 2020, a hunter discovered the skull in the forest and informed the police.

The place of discovery was near the path that the pensioner took.

The investigators previously assumed a different promenade.

Forensic medicine confirmed that the remains were the missing woman.

There were no indications of a criminal offense.
