Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - After reports of an observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the AfD filed a complaint in the Magdeburg state parliament for treason.

The opposition faction announced on Thursday that the charges were directed against unknown persons because of all offenses that could be considered.

They cited defamation, betrayal and violation of official secrets as examples.

A corresponding report was received by fax, confirmed a spokesman for the Magdeburg public prosecutor.

The authority will examine the allegations.

He did not provide any further information at first.

At the beginning of the week, the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” reported that the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution had recently started monitoring the AfD using intelligence services.

This is possible according to state law if there is sufficient evidence that it is an anti-constitutional effort.

The Ministry of the Interior and the Protection of the Constitution did not evaluate the reports.

However, Interior Minister Michael Richter (CDU) confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday that there was a meeting of the secret parliamentary control body on Monday.

It is "extremely annoying" that information came out of a meeting.

The body is supposed to control the domestic secret service, most of the meetings are classified as secret.

The members must keep their knowledge from it to themselves.

All parliamentary groups send a representative to the body, including the AfD.

The announcement was made, among other things, because the information that the state party was being observed, according to media reports, came from the control committee, the AfD parliamentary group said.

It has long been known that the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the officially disbanded "wing" as a proven right-wing extremist tendency, continues to assign 7,000 members and considers the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament member Hans-Thomas Tillschneider to be one of the leading figures.

With such a classification, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution may use intelligence services.

Despite this publicly known assessment, Tillschneider was elected deputy for the first time a few months ago at the suggestion of AfD state chairman Martin Reichardt.

Tillschneider has refuted all allegations against him, Reichardt assured.

The AfD state associations in Thuringia and Brandenburg are observed by the constitutional protection officers there.

Like Saxony-Anhalt, they are considered to be state parties in which there are a particularly large number of "wing" supporters, including among the top officials.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution is currently examining whether the entire AfD should be classified as a suspected case of right-wing extremism.

The AfD defends itself before the administrative court in Cologne against the publication of such classifications.

The secret service therefore does not want to publish its test results until an urgent decision is made.
