Koblenz (dpa / lrs) - Even in times of epidemics, many people from Rhineland-Palatinate invest in state gambling: In the Corona year 2020, the state lottery company posted a significant increase in sales.

The proceeds of all lotteries and the Oddset sports bet rose by 12.7 percent to around 423.2 million euros, as announced by Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz in Koblenz.

"This is the best result since 2008," said Lotto boss Jürgen Häfner.

At that time the turnover was 425.1 million euros.

Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz does not want to announce the win in 2020 until late summer 2021.

The gaming behavior of customers has not fundamentally changed even in Corona times.

"Despite the temporary closure of many acceptance points during the two lockdowns, our customers have remained loyal to us and either put multi-week tickets into play or played on our website at www.lotto-rlp.de", explained Häfner.

In 2020, 32.6 million euros in stakes flowed to the lottery company on this digital route - an increase of 32 percent compared to the previous year.

200,000 customers have now registered for the internet game with Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz.

The company also wants to offer scratch cards and the bingo lottery game here in the future.

According to Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz, the increase in sales in 2020 was mainly due to “the careful product improvement with a moderate adjustment of stakes” at 6 out of 49 as well as several jackpot phases in this classic and the Eurojackpot lottery.

Since September 23, a betting field at 6 out of 49 for the draws on Wednesdays and Saturdays has cost 1.20 euros instead of the previous 1 euros.

In return, with six correctly ticked numbers, a profit in the millions should be possible more often.

Before that, the correct super number was also required.

According to its own statements, Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz distributed a good 196 million euros to winners in 2020.

Among them were nine million prizes.

A tipster in Koblenz received the highest sum in April with almost 8.1 million euros - he had hit the jackpot on 6 out of 49 with a stake of 64.50 euros.

The main business of Lotto Rhineland-Palatinate continues to run through around 910 acceptance points nationwide, for example in grocery stores, flower shops and hairdressing salons with a total of more than 6000 employees.

According to the company, 163 employees work for Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz in Koblenz.
